Devlog 9: Polish Polish Polish!
The end is near!
Hey hey everyone! We are getting closer and closer to the end!
Since we are in polish, we do not add any new features! We can only polish/tweak stuff we already have and make our game more
interesting to look at!
Let's have a look at what this week of polish has done for the game
Bug fixes
As we're getting to the end, no more new features will be added, meaning not a lot of new code is required.
Now this doesn't mean there's nothing to do, in fact this is one of the most important parts of the development.
Particle effects
All particle effects were already made but not properly implemented and required a lot of tweaking and proper implementing,
this has now been done.
Audio
Some extra audio files have been added and implemented, for instance now there's different music for the main menu post screens and in-game music, creating nicer transitions. Also where needed sound has been tweaked and adjusted.
The feel
Besides that also the feel of the game has been improved, slight changes to the movement parameters, speed of animations, level layouts, visual improvements etc.
The Art
This week it was clean up time and we made the game pretty!
We vectorized the lineart so the elements have a more stylized look and to get rid of the shaky lines we drew. The lineart also has a standard thickness of 6. Next to that we got rid of the black values and gave the lineart a darker color that fits the object. The alpha channels of all the visuals are adjusted and as small as possible.
Next to that the wall decor got a much darker value and was made more interesting. There was a lot more focus on the designs. Next week we will even try to make a shader for the gems.
The visual elements also got an update. We made for each level seperate variations in the level color. This way when a beam is 'further' away it will get a more blue or more purple color. This helps with the depth in the level. The levels now have the right amount of elements and are finished!
The interactables got a whole new design that fits the theme even more. The color scheme is more basic so it fits all the levels. Next week the animations will be up and running again.
What to tackle next week? The particles, the rope and the menu has to be cleaned!
Character Animations
So for our character animations, we mainly just had to clean up the lines as the animations themselves work well. Making clean lineart was pretty fun and calming to do!
Our lovely Bling only had 2 animations left that needed a clean lineart, so it too way less time to finish up.
Handsome Blong however had a a couple more animations that needed a cleanup, so he took a bit more time! Getting clean lines every frame of every animation didn't always go smoothly and got a bit frustrating at times, but it all worked out in the end.

The Ascend
A co-op 2D puzzle platformer where you're connected by rope and have to get out of a cave! Go on then!
