Devlog 10: The finish line!
Hellow everyone!
Last week we had one more week of polish for our game. A lot of bugs came up when finishing everything but now the game is ready to play and works perfectly!
But here's the important part:
We can officially call the game released!
That's right! We have finished our project and you can truly experience the lovely duo Bling and Blong on their adventure to ascend the cave!
Now of course, we can take a quick look on what we did in our final week:
Trailer!!
Laurens made the trailer on the page. In the trailer you can see the gameplay and everything the characters can do. Be sure to check it out!
The programming
Since it was the final week, we didn't want to go too crazy! A controller rumble was added for when the player uses their special ability.
We also added a bit of camera shake! This made the game quite a lot more fun already!
Our main menu is now also more dynamic with moving characters! Along with some lovely jazz, it really relaxes you.
We've got some parallax scrolling in our level! Dynamic backgrounds wooo!!
Died in our last level and disliked having to start over at the very beginning again? No worries, if you die near the end, you'll respawn right where you were before you fell down! :)
But naturally, the biggest part was fixing bugs. This was mainly small sprite atlas bugs, some character particle effects that needed to be a bit faster, some character movement fixes, .... you know the deal!
The Sound
We added a fun sound for when the first level starts and the characters are falling allll the way down, they sound quite scared :(
New and improved audio was added for our levels and also our loading level sound! We struggled a bit to find melodies that would really fit the style and were a bit slower, but we are very happy with what we now found and added!
The art
Ding ding! Itchio update!
Our itch.io page got a huge update! The background got the background from the game aaand we've got a new thumbnail and some lovely title art which you can see on our main page! We wanted to really capture our characters with the title together which worked so well! Our thumbnail is obviously very inspired by old cartoons :)
The final layout
The final layout was made for all the environment pieces in the game. Every piece was put in the right layer and would now also stay in that place. We made sure the levels have enough depth to make them interesting and also some elements in front of the players to give that feeling.
All of the art was then put into an atlas texture. This caused some issue but we found a way to fix it. This makes sure the games only has to run 1 texture and not all the other ones at the same time.
Lighting and sound
The lighting was placed on the right places in the level. We gave it some fun colors that fit the scene. The sound also got a big update. The funny tune was put only on the last level and the other levels got a different more fitting song. The further the players get the happier the songs are because they reach the end of the game.
Main menu
The main menu got a great update! The background is a part of the game with the 2 characters animated next to the buttons.
The animations
The only animation that still had to be cleaned up was the Anchor animation for Blong! Now that all of them are ready, it's really pleasant to see the progress!
Most importantly..
A HUGE THANK-YOU to everyone who cheered us on each week while we made this, we couldn't have done it without you!
Your support was truly endearing!
We are very proud of our work and really love sharing our progress with you, so without further ado..
Get out there and help our duo in The Ascend!!!
Big love from the team
:)
